What is Human Factors?
Human Factors is the scientific discipline concerned
with the understanding of interactions among humans and other
elements of a system. The Human Factors profession applies theory,
principles, data, and methods to design in order to optimize
human well being and overall system performance.
Human Factors (HF) professionals contribute to the design
and evaluation of tasks, jobs, products, environments and
systems in order to make them compatible with the needs, abilities
and limitations of people.
At AMEC Paragon, HF principles are applied to the specification,
design, evaluation, operation and maintenance of oil &
gas and maritime equipment to enhance safety, efficiency of
personnel and job satisfaction.
Can Human Factors Affect the "Bottom Line"?
HF principles applied during design to reduce the
potential for human error can lead to improved system reliability
and maintainability, allowing a system to sustain greater
levels of availability or uptime. Evidence shows that the
revenue generated by a system will increase as a function
of system availability.
AMEC Paragon's Experience
The HF Group has worked most recently in five key
areas: new facilities design and construction, control room
studies, training, incident investigation and development
of design guidelines and specifications.
